Former US President Donald Trump's new social networking project, Truth Social, has been launched on the Apple App Store. This marks Trump's return to social media after being banned from Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube last year.

The app has topped the list of free apps on the App Store. The application is automatically downloaded to the devices of users who pre-ordered the application. Several users reported that they were either having trouble registering for an account with the app or were added to a queue with a message saying "Due to massive demand, we have put you on our waiting list".

It is worth noting that Trump was banned from using Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Google after the attack that took place on January 6, 2021 on the US Capitol building by his supporters, after he was accused of publishing messages inciting violence.

The Trump Media and Technology Group headed by former Republican Representative Devin Nunes, which is behind the Truth Social project, will join a growing group of tech companies that present themselves as champions of free speech and hope to appeal to users who feel their views are being withheld on existing social media platforms.

On Tuesday, Donald Trump Jr., the son of the former president, tweeted "It's time for the truth," with an image of a message from Trump Sr. on the new social platform that read: "Get ready!Your favorite president will welcome you soon."
