He added that drinking only water promotes what is known as "autophagy", which is a process that takes place inside the human body to destroy unnecessary or corrupt cells that may be dangerous to the body, and to recycle them.

Water fasting means abstaining from any drink except water for a period of no less than 24 hours, and this period usually lasts between 24-27 hours, but if the period is more than that, the matter needs medical supervision.

Among the reasons that lead people to this fasting are: religious or spiritual reasons, or to lose weight, remove toxins, or prepare for a medical procedure.
