Michael Phelps, a famous American swimmer, holds the record for the number of Olympic medals he has won: 28, including 23 gold.

Phelps had a rather rough childhood, suffering from bullying by his schoolmates because of his shape and the length of his ears, and he developed hyperkinetic disease.
With a mental illness, a doctor advised his mother to direct him to exercise, so that Phelps chose swimming, which became its first undisputed champion.
Ironically, the greatest Olympic champion ever was afraid of water, racing only on his back without lowering his head in the water.

Birth of swimmer Michael Phelps:

American swimmer Michael Phelps was born on June 30, 1985 in Baltimore, Maryland, USA.

In his childhood, Phelps suffered a bit, and was ridiculed and bullied by his school students because of the shape of his face and long ears.

As the problems increased for Phelps as a child, his mother took him to a psychiatrist, who advised her to exercise daily.

Indeed, Phelps began practicing swimming, to create himself, after several years, a super Olympic champion.

A hero who fears water and suffers the separation of his parents:

Strangely enough, Phelps started swimming while he was afraid of the water, as he floated on his back to avoid lowering his head into the water.

During the beginning of his career in the world of swimming, his father separated from his mother at the age of nine, which came as a great shock to Michael.

"At the time, I felt like I didn't want to get any energy out again, my dad left me and I didn't want to do anything after that," Michael said of that time.
Shy start and first Olympics left empty-handed:

In 1999, Phelps was named to the Olympic reserve team, becoming the youngest American swimmer to compete at an Olympic tournament in 68 years.

With his first Olympic participation, Phelps failed to win any medals at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.

Phelps breaks records.

In 2001, Phelps broke the record in the 200-meter butterfly, and in the same year won his first medal at the Japanese Championships.

In 2004, Phelps was the single undisputed star of the Athens Olympics, after winning 8 medals at once.

Where he won 6 gold and 2 silver medals, equaling the number of Soviet gymnast Alexander Detatin for the most medals in a single Olympic Games.

Phelps, the star of the Beijing Olympics:

Phelps continued to shine at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, where he emerged with eight gold medals.

Thus, Phelps surpassed the record set by swimmer Mark Spitz, who won seven gold medals in a single session.

He retired while he was on top of glory:

Phelps participated in the London Games in 2012, aiming to win many other medals, which he really was.

Phelps raised his tally to 23 medals and beat gymnast Larisa Latynina, who won 18 Olympic medals.

Then the American swimmer decided to put an end to his legendary career after he emerged as a hero as he once wanted.

And about that, Phelps said, “After 2012, I no longer had anything to offer for sports, I decided to step down and retire, so easily.”
